Did the update finish or did it display an error message? Check the log file administrator/logs/joomla_update.php.
Check all the third party extensions for compatibility with Joomla 5 from JED and the developer's website. For example, JCE v2.6.15 was released in 2017 and will have issues if run in Joomla 5.

The variable $live_site in the file configuration.php needs to be empty, in other words, '', meaning two single quotation marks:LiveSite: Is Not Empty
